CHRISTIANITY AND THE MARKETPLACE
MBS Workplace Theology
Many of God’s people spend the majority of their lives in the workplace. However, a Biblical understanding of the importance of workplace vocation, of serving God and fulfilling his Kingdom purposes through our working lives, is rarely taught. Our intention is to provide workplace believers with the theological framework needed to understand their calling at work before God in a lifegiving and vigorous way, so that they can pursue their God-given objectives with confidence and grow spiritually through their work.
Dr Mark Lovatt is the Director of Workplace Theology at MBS. Holding a PhD in theology from Nottingham University, he came to Malaysia from the corporate sector in the UK to teach Systematic Theology at MBS in 2009, where he lectured full-time for 12 months. However, the Lord called him back into the business world, starting his own energy efficiency consultancy in Kuala Lumpur with
two Malaysian colleagues in late 2009. He has since joined the Malaysian chapter of a global anticorruption organisation, where he established a ground-breaking programme to help companies safeguard their operations against corruption: a programme which is now attracting international attention. Dr Lovatt combines practical experience with theological research, to develop materials for working people who want to understand more of God’s call on their lives and how to grow spiritually through their work.
Courses are in the form of two one-day seminars held on a Saturday. Each topic is covered by a lecture followed by discussion, group work or exercises. The topics are in the following areas:

- Biblical principles for business

- Workplace ethics
- Environmental stewardship: a Biblical approach
